Is "Kama Sutra" part of Hindu Vedic shastra ??

There are basically 18 types of shastras in Hinduism. In which Vedas are of 4 types :
Rig-veda, Yujur-veda, Sama-veda, Atharva-veda.

When people go and visit Ajanta Ellora caves, they came across many erotic sciptures and paintings.

So why there is vivid description about
kama or lust in shastras ?

People misunderstood them to be part of Hindu Vedic Shastra. But in reality they are not being part of vedic shastra. Yes, but we cannot defy the fact that they are part of Shastra. Although they are included in Tantra Shashtra.
Shastra included these things because they are aware about how Human being feel, his needs, desire and wish.

Now the question arises what was the need of  building these Erotic Sciptures and paintings?

So long time ago when Bhuddism began to spread across world, people were following Buddhism so immensely that they were no more interested to be part of householder life. And due to this "Vairagya" was spreading across the world.  "Vairagya" which means detachment - To develop disinterest towards the subjects of the sensual and physical pleasures.
The influence of Bhuddism was so immense that men start practicing celibacy. And this was leading to the end of householder era. To maintain the balance between the nature and to bring people back to "Grihast" life or householder life these sculptures and painting were built in Ajanta ellora caves. To evoke their feelings again, these painting were built.

Hope this clarifies you a lot.

Thanks for reading.
